Why is it alkaline in the small intestine?

It is acidic(HCL) in the stomach to prevent bacteria from growing. Then in the small intestine, pancreas excrete amylase, trypsin and lipase which are alkaline and provide an alkaline medium for the small intestine. why does the intestine need a alkaline medium?
